Are you scared of TIGERS?

I have to admit I was today! I'm sure you've heard about the tiger escaping at the San Fransisco Zoo on Christmas Day and attacking 3 visitors, killing one. (What a bummer post this is.) Today, we went to the Dickerson Park Zoo of Springfield. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Medlar for the Christmas money....we bought a zoo pass for the year! As we approached the tiger enclosure, I felt myself getting a bit tense. The kids were running ahead and I was pushing the double stroller with my big belly and thinking I needed to catch up. What if something happened? What if the tiger was out? Would I be fast enough to save my sweet little children from the grasp of the gaping jaws and pointy teeth of the large male tiger? Katie ran straight for the fake tiger and climbed aboard. I did several double-takes to make sure the fake tiger was really the fake tiger and not the real one trying to trick us so it could eat us up for lunch. Shortly after we arrived at the tiger enclosure, a man sauntered up and walked by. The tiger followed his every move. I even made some silly comment like, "Wow, he's really watching you." The man just smiled and kept walking and the tiger kept following him. As we walked away the kids said, "Oh, that man must be a zooworker." I questioned why and they said, "Because he just went through the zoo gates to where the tiger lives." YIKES! I started frantically searching for a place we could hide if the tiger "escaped". I stayed calm on the outside so as not to scare any of my children. I wanted this experience to be good one, a positive one, so we could continue to use the zoo pass all year without any kiddos being emotionally scarred. As we passed the bathrooms, I had an overwhelming urge to linger, just in case. The kids ran ahead towards the monkeys. Thank goodness there was an indoor viewing area where we could barricade ourselves in if we had to. Golly, my mind was working overtime. Needless to say, I didn't fully relax until I saw the same "zooworker" in the monkey enclosure fixing up their dinner. I even nervously laughed at myself. Ha, ha what a silly way to scare yourself Marie. Four hours after we entered the gates, we exited unharmed. Well except for the bleeding bite on Katie's finger from the mean white goat at the petting farm who thought he should bite down extra hard to teach Katie it is mean to act like you have food for the goats when you really don't. She recuperated quickly and even fed the same mean white goat the last piece of goat food she found on the ground. No, I don't spend 50 cents on the overpriced goat food. We are scavengers, but I just tell the kids we are frugal. I apologize for focussing so much on the tiger. It was really only 15 minutes of our whole zoo experience. We really loved the
hippo I'm sorry this video is sideways. I have new camera and don't know how to work it yet.
and the monkeys
the most. We even got to see
Pumba.
Thanks again Grandma and Grandpa Medlar in Vacaville! It was a day with (almost) no fighting.
